Today’s Tests

I wanted to drop a quick note and say how pleased I was of the class today on their Math and Science test.  As a class, we averaged 89% on each test, which is quite an accomplishment.  I would like to thank all the parents and helpers that worked with the students preparing them for these assessments.  The hard work payed off!

Today

Ms. Hoagland

As I’m sure you have heard, today was Ms. Hoagland’s last day in our classroom.  Due to a death in the family, she was needed at home up north and had to leave us a few days early.  I hope you all join me in thanking her for all of her hard work throughout this semester.  With her, your students were able to receive twice the attention and it really did better each child’s education.

Thursday’s Tests

Wanted to remind everyone that we will be having both a science test (over woodlands) and a math test (over longer multiplication, large numbers, place value, rounding and powers of 10) on Thursday.  Students received a study guide for the science test tonight and will receive the one for math tomorrow.  Any questions, please let me know.

Parent Letter

Dear Parents/ Guardians:

Hello! Hope everything is going well for everyone, especially with the time of the year for travel and shopping.  This first part of the year has flown by for the students and me.  We have covered some great topics in math, science, and social studies.  Also, everyone has shown great improvements in their reading groups!  I cannot wait to finish out the rest of my student teaching with such a great group of students! During the week of November 29th, students are going to be chosen (one per day) to have the chance to dress up as an elf for the day.  The students will have a permission slip that comes home with them the night before.  Please sign and return this the next day if your child is picked!  They are doing this for the Jingle Bell Run that is on December 4th at 2:00.  This is a way for the students to become involved and want to participate in the run.

Math:  We are finishing up our fifth unit in Math.  Students are working with partial products and lattice in multiplication.  We are working on longer problems with bigger numbers, using a variety of methods to solve the problems so when the students take their test they can choose whichever way is easiest for them.  Next up, our class will be working on long division!   We will also be doing math benchmark testing next week.   The Unit 5 test is planned to be at the later part of the week after Thanksgiving, around December 1st.

Science: Room 109 has been working on a unit of woodlands and forests.  The students are investigating animal signs, observing tree and leaf characteristics, and learning about the forest ecosystem.  The class worked as a team to create a large wall mural of the different forest layers.  Our students also solved a crime case by using clues of animal signs such as footprints, shelter, food, and hair.  The unit will conclude the week after Thanksgiving.  The students will review in class and will also be sent home with a study guide for the test.  November 30th is the planned date for the test to be taken.

Social Studies: We just finished out industrialization unit and took a test a couple weeks ago.  We had all the students invent an invention and create a commercial.  These are able to be previewed on Mr. Peralta’s webpage.  Great job students!! J We will continue our study of social studies after ISAT testing and will be studying the plight of immigrants to this country and the injustices of some of our citizens during the 1910’s-1920’s.
